Manufacturing Engineer – Aerospace

JOB DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a Manufacturing Engineer – Aerospace (m/f/d) to support our Prototype and Manufacturing team. The team is responsible for all aspects of prototype manufacturing of our aircraft, the design of manufacturing process instructions, technical supply chain management and the design, sourcing and implementation of the infrastructure and equipment in the prototyping shop. In your role in the team, you will be responsible for the realization and optimization of manufacturing processes from conceptual design to practical implementation. You will take over responsibilities in the communication with our supply chain and drive the development and continuous improvement of our suppliers and subcontractors. You will work with quality management to ensure our quality assurance strategy is in line with all applicable regulatory requirements. Thus, contribute materially to the success of our mission.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop, analyze and document design requirements and translate them into (prototype) manufacturing processes and quality assurance instructions considering the criticality of the design detail (job cards, task instructions, tool/jig requirements, assembly frames, skill requirements, workplace requirements)
  • Enable the design organisation to develop design requirements that are feasible and suitable to produce consistently sound structures (methods of fabrication and inspection, tolerances, selection of material standards, etc.)
  • Drive the initial design and continuous improvement efforts in all aspects of manufacturing processes (cross-functional meetings / workshops / authoring of internal guidance material and standards)
  • Act as technical interface between the departments of engineering, purchasing and production (serial production / prototyping production)
  • Elaborate cost estimates and standard process times, considering time, quality, availability and safety management requirements
  • Develop our suppliers and partners by sharing knowledge and experience on how requirements could be met

YOUR PROFILE

you should …

  • Have very good knowledge in the characteristics of metallic materials and/or glass/carbon-fiber-reinforced plastics and in the characteristics of manufacturing processes related to these materials, preferably in an aerospace environment or similarly regulated industry e.g. medical devices
  • Have a minimum of 5 years of professional work experience in the design and implementation of manufacturing processes including their qualification
  • Have a strong understanding of related manufacturing process capabilities, achievable tolerances etc.
  • Have general knowledge of related material and manufacturing process failure cases and means of detection/mitigation
  • Have experience in developing manufacturing data from design data (manufacturing process instructions, inspection instructions, handling Instructions, packing instructions, etc.)
  • Have experience in a Part 21 Subpart G or AS 9100 or PART 145 working environment
  • Be willing to travel frequently to suppliers and subcontractors
  • Be passionate about what you do, willing to learn continuously and share your growing expertise within ERC
  • Hold a degree or similar qualification in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, production system or manufacturing process design or material science
  • Be fluent in English and German (written and spoken) and have a valid driving license for Germany

Moreover, we appreciate if you …

  • Have experience in dealing with an approved design organisation or even evidence of a role as DE/CSE or CVE within an approved design organisation
  • Have knowledge or experience in AS 9145
  • Have knowledge or experience in LEAN, 5S-Method, Poka-Yoke
  • Are open to later take over responsibilities as a Supply Chain or Supply Chain Quality Engineer
