LAB Hardware Engineer

What you will do

You will be a member of the XPLORE LAB team. This team is responsible for LAB processes and tools which are used in CMORE (Life science, MEMS, actuators, sensors …) and Core (3D, Logic, Memory…). You work in a team of about 20 people with whom you interact daily to maintain a LAB that has approximately 500 registered users.

With your hardware and process colleagues you ensure that the tools are running smoothly and efficiently, you support the imec programs with their projects as a link between hardware and process requirements.

You work in a dynamic multidisciplinary and multicultural environment in close cooperation with researchers, students, process and hardware engineers, industry assignees, device, and process experts.

  • As a hardware engineer, you take on a key role in developing some next generation semiconductor technologies. The hardware engineer is also strongly connected to the applications and R&D teams to deliver state-of-the-art application solutions to the R&D programs in imec;
  • During an intensive training period you will be coached by our team. They will introduce you to the LAB activities, teach and practice with you everything you need to know to excel in your role;
  • The hardware engineer owns all phases of the lifecycle: purchasing new equipment, hook-up, maintenance, user support, quality control and decommissioning. She/He closely interacts with the technicians in the operations team for all these tasks. Type of tools you will work on: dry and wet etching, plating, photolithography, characterization (ellipsometry, microscopy, profilometry), thin-film depositions/sputter and evaporation;
  • You document tool info and status and keep the stock information for consumables and tool parts up to date;
  • You work on new prototype tools for the LAB, work on plans to replace old tools, and follow up on new tool installations;
  • Part of your activities will be supporting the process team with the development of certain process steps;
  • You will work in day shift.

Who you are

  • You obtained a degree in Engineering (Mechanics or Electronics) or have 5+ years of experience in the electronics or semi-conductor industry;
  • You can work on your own with good hands-on skills in a LAB environment, well organized, with a good attention to detail and set high standards for quality;
  • You are a problem solver: you do not think in problems, but in solutions. Thanks to your sense of urgency, you act proactively. You are not afraid to roll up your sleeves and dive right into the action;
  • You see changes as an opportunity to learn and grow and you can deal with ambiguity;
  • As timing is critical in our business, we are looking for people with strong analytical and organizational skills, who can evaluate and respond effectively to incoming request and issues in a timely manner. We need people who enjoy a (high) level of freedom in their work, who are looking for an intellectual challenge, and foremost who are willing and able to learn fast;
  • You are a good communicator: you listen actively; you build bridges where needed and are customer focused. You communicate clearly and effectively;
  • You are a team player: you share your technical expertise with your colleagues, you can coach and guide others, you actively contribute to achieving common goals;
  • You are comfortable in the MS Office suite and have basic data analysis skills;
  • Given the international character of imec, fluency in English is a must.
