Footwear Designer

YOUR SHOES TO FILL:

  • You keep up to date with market developments by focusing on design trends and recognizing and also setting new trends and developments that are relevant for future concepts.
  • You participate in the interdisciplinary development of technological and functional innovations focussing on PU and EVA products, working closely with product line management, product development and external partners.
  • You inject the Birkenstock DNA into all your designs which is driven by functionality and innovation around our footbed.
  • You will help to create and fine-tune concept briefings, clarify market requirements and incorporate the design perspective into conceptual planning.
  • You will create, present and initial concept designs, incorporating feedback from Product Line Management, Product Development and Senior Management.
  • You will develop concepts in CAD, including detailed views and material specifications, and develop a detailed selection of materials for responsible product concepts.
  • You will prepare spec sheets for our in-house development as well as external suppliers, if necessary; preparation of various views, cross-sections and details for shafts and soles; specification of materials, decorations, constructions and units of measurement (close coordination with development).
  • You will support the creation of the seasonal color chart; create color execution of styles in close coordination with other product areas and Brand DNA.

 

YOUR WALK OF LIFE:

  • Completed training and/or studies in the creative field, ideally specialising in industrial design, fashion or shoe design.
  • At least 5 years experience in a relevant position in footwear design, in the footwear, fashion or sports industry.
  • Good knowledge of footwear manufacturing methods and constructions, especially EVA and PU direct injection and moulding.
  • Basic knowledge of EVA and PU production technology mould making.
  • Proficiency in common graphic programmes (Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.) at a high level, experience with 3D tools is an advantage.
  • Fluent in English and basic knowledge of German.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, as well as adaptability to a dynamic environment, proactive problem-solving skills and a proven history of creativity and innovation.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally.
